the commuter

I don't really feel well this morning.  I'm grumpy.  and dehydrated.

I saw a guy walking down the street this morning.  He looked a lot like Alex from work, but different swagger to his walk.  I had a hard time determining if it was him, but the longer I focused on him, the more I thought about the walker's situation... opting out of driving to work and talking a walk instead, laced up Asics, headphones in, music on.  He wasn't just another guy commuting to work.  He was something more than that.  He successfully separated himself from the countless thousands upon thousands fighting morning rush hour traffic.  He was independent from the rest of us.  He was free.

The North Park sign was the first image that popped into my head.  It was a time when I was walking to and from work, and everywhere else.  It was a time of self discovery and enlightenment, taking on life by the horns, one step at a time.  I grew a lot that year, being humbled by the simple nature of walking through a metropolis of cars, and suvs, and buses, and trains, and trams, and flim flam thinga majam, and being happy with my choice of walking.  I built up my physical endurance, I found more appreciation in my surroundings, and overall was a happier person.  I was at peace.

It wasn't Alex after all, but this random walker got me thinking about a new city, new opportunity, new people, new faces, new shoots, new life...

I did, I got a little excited for moving north for once.  I've spent the last couple of months bouncing back and forth between being ready for this move, and being hesitant, feeling ready to tackle a new city, and feeling fearful and intimidated.  It's awful being a scorpio.  But then again, it's awesome.

I'm ready now.
